This week, let’s talk about Tannat. This red grape originated in South West France and became very prominent in Uruguay; so popular that they call it their national grape! Similar to Petit Manseng, Tannat is flourishing in Virginia because it has a thicker skin that can withstand our ever-changing climate. Tannat is an elegant wine with years of aging potential and Françoise and Julian knew they had to grow some at Revalation! To soften its tannic nature, our 2018 vintage is blended with 7% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has beautiful aromas of raspberry, rosemary, and plum and is well balanced with rounded tannins and a slight mineral finish.
